West Virginia University will showcase some of its people and programs to the State Fair of West Virginia, and representatives from the school are excited to show the crowds how “It’s All Here” in West Virginia.

More than 150 faculty, staff, students and volunteers will be representing WVU at this year’s State Fair with exhibits, theme days and fair-friendly educational demonstrations at the nine-day event.

Just like the theme “It’s All Here!” suggests, there is something for everyone at the WVU Building at the 87th annual State Fair.

Each day the WVU Building will house a theme, starting Friday, Aug. 12 with “Did You Know WVU Does That? Day,” which will showcase the University’s unique offerings to fairgoers, such as sustainability programs.

WVU will highlight its science and technology programs that reach far beyond students during Outreach to Outer Space Day (Aug. 13). Fair-goers can also take in WVU’s programs that focus on energy, from what we acquire through the food we eat to increasing our everyday energy levels on Energy Day (Aug. 17).

On Plant a Seed Day (Aug.14), youth can learn about how to grow a garden as well as plant the seed of how to grow within themselves by exploring the options of going to college to continue their education.

Other themes days include WVU Online (Aug. 15), Safety (Aug. 16), Mountaineer Pride (Aug. 18), Wellness (Aug. 19) and 4-H (Aug. 20).

New to the WVU Building is “Ask the WVU Extension Expert” – an exhibit where experts in home canning, gardening, cyber bullying prevention and other Extension topics will be available to answer questions from the crowd.

Fairgoers will have the opportunity to play Are You Smarter Than a 4-H’er?, Label Mabel , and explore healthier food options at the fair by participating in Foods for Thought.

On Sunday, Aug. 14, the WVU women’s volleyball team will be at the WVU Building from noon until 3 p.m., showing serves and spikes and their own special WVU state fair spirit.

The “Put Yourself in the Pride” exhibit will return and will give the public the rare chance to feel what it is like to be a member of WVU’s award-winning marching band. Participants can wear the famous blue and gold uniform.

The fair is held in the town of Fairlea, near Lewisburg, in Greenbrier County. For more information on the fair, and to watch via the Fair cam, go to www.ext.wvu.edu.
