Many of the thousands of students who will return to the West Virginia University campus next week will have financial assistance from the WVU Alumni Association’s Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund.
The endowment is one of the University’s oldest scholarship funds and provides more than $500,000 in financial assistance to deserving students.
“These students have worked hard to achieve success, and we are pleased to offer our assistance in helping them further that success at WVU,” said Stephen L. Douglas, President and CEO of the WVU Alumni Association. “The trustees are proud of our commitment to this program and thankful for the generous support of alumni and friends for enabling us to award nearly 450 scholarships for this academic school year.”
An open house for students and parents will be held on Friday, Aug. 19, from 1-5 p.m. in the David C. Hardesty Atrium/Alma Mater Room of The Erickson Alumni Center. Students can pick up their scholarship checks during that time while enjoying light refreshments.
Free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the building. Students and families that are moving in that day are invited to stop by the alumni center to enjoy the refreshments and take a break from move-in day.
Students who are unable to pick up their checks on that day may do so the following week at The Erickson Alumni Center (second floor) beginning at 8:15 a.m.
Scholarships for the 2011-12 academic year are presented to high school valedictorians, student body presidents and other deserving students from West Virginia. To qualify, recipients must be: a resident of West Virginia, demonstrate a financial need, hold a minimum grade point average of 2.75, and demonstrate good citizenship as outlined in his/her extracurricular activities.
