Matt Brann will serve as acting director of the International Center for Performance Excellence/Fitness Information Technology in the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences at West Virginia University.

During the transition period, Brann will continue as senior editor with FiT, providing editorial services. In his new role, Brann will oversee five full time staff and all publishing activities at FiT.

“Matt brings 20 years of experience in sport media and publishing,” said Dana Brooks, CPASS dean. “He’s been with FiT for the past seven years and has played an important role in FiT’s success as one of the premier publishers in sport sciences. It’s an exciting time to be involved in academic publishing. Matt will expand FiT’s position in the eBook market and work with staff to develop a strategic plan for the future.”

In the past seven years, FiT has published 61 books, doubled its ownership of quarterly journals, and transitioned numerous publications as eBooks. Brann has helped negotiate partnerships between journals and professional associations. He has overseen the adoption of FiT’s eBooks by several online universities.

Prior to joining FiT, Brann worked as managing editor of WV Sports Report and previously served as editor, writer and syndicated columnist in Indiana and Illinois.

FiT publishes textbooks, reference and trade books, academic journals, electronic databases and electronic test products in sport psychology, physical education, coaching education, sport management and sport sociology. FiT has publishing alliances with international organizations, international book distributors and translation rights agreements in several different languages for many of its works.

FiT promotes sales in the United Kingdom, Mexico, throughout Europe, in Southeast Asia and in Australia and New Zealand. Trade book distributors have helped ensure that FiT’s books are widely sold in bookstore chains in the United States, Canada, and other countries.
