Select undergraduate students who have spent eight to 10 weeks working in West Virginia University labs as part of a series of summer research experience programs will cap off their endeavors with a special Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 28 at the Erickson Alumni Center.

WVU Provost Michele Wheatly will be the special speaker at the event that will also feature WVU Honors College Dean Keith Garbutt and WV Nano Director Diandra Leslie-Pelecky. The symposium will give family, friends and WVU research community the opportunity to learn about the work the students tackled during their intensive summer research experience.

The symposium, where students will present their work in a poster format, is the culmination of weeks of study and mentoring from WVU researchers that offered selected students the chance to earn academic credit and pick up unusual research experience in some of the top labs in the region.

Students also accomplished on-line assignments and attended workshops and seminars in addition to their research activity. Students also received stipends.

There will be 90 student posters in competition during the seminar in four categories – Biological & Health Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering, Nanosciences, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences – with one winner in each category.

The students participated in the following summer research programs:
