Dana Brooks, dean of the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences at West Virginia University, recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hagerstown Community College Hall of Fame ceremony in Hagerstown, Md. The Hawk Booster Club sponsored its annual golf tournament and banquet to honor former HCC athletes and coaches.

Brooks has held leadership positions in the American Association of Health, Physical Education and Dance, American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education and Sport Sociology Commission. In 1999, he was selected as Fellow in the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Brooks is the recipient of numerous awards, including the West Virginia AAHPERD Ray O. Duncan Award.

Brooks received WVU’s Social Justice Award and the Martin Luther King Achievement Award. He has received the CPASS Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award on five occasions.

For the past 23 years, Brooks served as the project administrator for the College’s National Youth Sports Program. Brooks has authored or co-authored five books focusing on the African American Sport Experience and Grants/Contracts within the HPERD professions. He was awarded Fellowship in the North American Society of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance Professionals.

Brooks received his Associate Arts Degree from Hagerstown Community College, where he also played on the Hawk’s basketball team for two years. He received his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Towson State College, now Towson University, his master’s in Physical Education and Sport Behavior from WVU and his Ed.D in Physical Education and Sport Behavior.
