A donation of Greenbrier Classic golf tournament badges will have a lasting impact on West Virginia University sport management students. Sport management graduate students will offer the badges at a 50 percent discount for this summer’s event to be held July 25-31 at the Greenbrier Resort’s famed Old White Course.

Proceeds from the sale of the discounted badges will support the Jerry P. Wilkins Scholarship Fund and the graduate sport management major. The scholarship was established to continue Wilkins’ legacy of compassion, leadership, and wisdom.

“Since Jerry’s untimely death in 2001, the graduate sport management program has dedicated its effort to endow the Jerry P. Wilkins Scholarship for Leaders Award, given each year to a deserving and in-coming graduate student,” said Dr. Dallas Branch, professor in sport management, College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences.

“The sales promotion for the 2011 Greenbrier Classic badges will assist the program greatly in this regard. We hope that we can sell the 100 badges that the WVU Foundation has provided for this purpose,” he said.

The Greenbrier Classic badge includes passes valid for the duration of the tournament, including practice rounds, access to special hospitality areas with air conditioning, complementary snacks, upgraded bathrooms, tailgate style food, and free parking and tickets.

The Greenbrier Classic concert series will be headlined by two of country music’s biggest stars, Tim McGraw and Keith Urban. There will also be a special performance by the Black Eyed Peas and special guest appearances from WVU celebrities and teams.
