West Virginia University’s police unit will add a familiar face to its force when retired Morgantown Police Chief Phil Scott joins its ranks, Chief of University Police Bob Roberts announced today.

Scott, 52, will begin his new role as Manager of Investigative Services Friday, April 1. He retired as Morgantown’s police chief in December after 25 years with the department—six as chief.

“I am pleased that Phil will be joining our team,” Roberts said. “He has an outstanding background in leadership and training, and his work in leading the Morgantown Detective Unit for many years will be an asset to us. Not only will he be able to handle and clear cases, but just as important – we will look for him to develop and train our younger officers in handling investigations.”

Scott says the position is “a good fit” and he is anxious to continue the positive working relationships he’s developed with the University and the City.
