Dan Olthaus, director of maintenance at West Virginia University, is available to offer expert insight into the operations of nuclear reactors.

Olthaus spent 21 years as a U.S. Navy nuclear power plant operator. During his career, he served on submarines, cruisers and aircraft carriers, including the USS Enterprise, the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the fleet. He also served on the design/build team for the USS Truman. Olthaus was qualified to supervise the operation of multiple types of Naval nuclear power plant platforms and was also qualified as an engineering laboratory technician, specializing in nuclear chemistry and radiological controls. He also served as an instructor at the Balston Spa (NY) Naval Nuclear Prototype Site.
