As the end of the 2011 spring semester nears, West Virginia University , Potomac State College and WVU Institute of Technology are reminding student loan borrowers that will not be returning to the institution in the fall that they must participate in exit loan counseling.

An e-mail will be sent to all spring graduates from WVU’s loan servicer, Educational Computer Systems, Inc. (ECSI), in late March requiring completion of loan exit counseling. If the counseling is not completed within the specified time frame, a letter from ECSI will then be sent to the students’ college mailing addresses.

Students who do not complete the exit counseling requirement will have a hold placed on their University records. The hold prohibits the students from obtaining transcripts or grades and from registering for classes at WVU or its regional campuses. Once the counseling requirement is completed, the hold will be released.

“Repayment of student loans is a serious obligation, so students must complete exit loan counseling even though they may be re-enrolling at West Virginia University or transferring to another college/university,” said Rebecca Wilkins, financial aid assistant at Potomac State College of WVU.

Transferring students and students who are not returning to WVU, WVU Institute of Technology and/or Potomac State College for the fall 2011 term should contact the WVU Office of Student Accounts at osa@mail.wvu.edu to implement the exit counseling process.
