Internationally known clarinetist Rebecca Rischin, a faculty member of Ohio University, will present a guest artist recital and master class at West Virginia University’s Creative Arts Center, Sunday (Jan. 30).

The recital will begin at 2 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A) and will be followed by the master class in Room 200B.

Both the recital and master class are free and open to the public.

Rischin will be joined by pianist Lya Stroupe for a program that includes “Wings” (1981) by Joan Tower (b. 1938); “Sonate” (1962) by Francis Poulenc (1899-1963); “Solo de concours” (1899) by Andr� Messager (1859-1929); and following intermission, “Sonate” (1921) by Camille Saint-Sa�ns (1835-1921) and “Concertino, Op. 26” (1811).

Since winning first place at the First International Clarinet Competition in Krakow, Poland, in 1994, Rischin has established an international reputation as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, teacher and scholar.

She is currently associate professor of clarinet at Ohio University and has given master classes and coaching sessions at universities and music schools nationwide. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Yale, a doctorate from Florida State University, and the performance Dipl�me from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, where she studied under the auspices of a Harriet Hale Woolley grant, awarded in 1993 to only two other visual and performing artists in the United States.
