Join West Virginia University’s major music ensembles in Pittsburgh as they perform a Gala Scholarship Fundraiser at The Carnegie Music Hall, part of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, Tuesday, Oct. 26.

The program begins at 7:30 p.m. and will feature some of the finest student ensembles at WVU.

The program will include the WVU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mitchell Arnold, performing the Overture to “Die Meistersinger zu N�rnberg” by Richard Wagner; the University Choir, conducted by Kathleen Shannon, performing selections from Menotti’s choral ballet “The Unicorn, the Gorgon & the Manticore”; the WVU Wind Symphony, conducted by John Hendricks, III, performing Edward Elgar’s “Enigma Variations,” arranged by Earl Slocum; the WVU Percussion Ensemble, performing “A Crash Course,” written by director George Willis; the CMQ Jazz Ensemble, from the WVU Jazz Area, directed by Paul Scea, performing selections from the compositions of Duke Ellington; and the WVU African Drum and Dance Ensemble, directed by Michael Vercelli, performing “Fume-Fume,” a social dance from Ghana; and the vocal jazz group “Same Difference,” conducted by Kathleen Shannon, performing music by Moses Hogan and Greg Jasperse.

The proceeds from the concert in Pittsburgh will be used to support music scholarships at WVU. The concert is sponsored by the Dean’s Office, WVU College of Creative Arts.

“As a native of the ‘Burgh, I am thrilled to return with these outstanding faculty and student performers, who will delight and engage the Pittsburgh audience,” said Dean Bernie Schultz of the College of Creative Arts. “Yunz will have a great time—hope to see you at Carnegie Music Hall on the 26th.”

Tickets to the Music Gala Concert Fundraiser in Pittsburgh for general admission seating are: $10 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and $5 for all students. Group discounts are also available and tickets can be purchased at the door on the evening of the concert. Only cash and checks can be accepted at the door; credit cards cannot be accepted.

Another concert fundraiser for WVU music scholarships with a nearly identical program will be held in Morgantown on Nov. 4. Details will be announced at a later date.
