In honor of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered History Month, West Virginia University will show a documentary on the history of the gay community before the Stonewall riots.

“Before Stonewall,” released in 1984, is part of WVU’s Brown Bag Lunch Film and Discussion Series. It will be held on Thursday (Oct. 7) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Gluck Theatre.

The Stonewall riots occurred at the Stonewall Inn in New York City in June of 1969. During the riots, drag queens fought back against police.

The film will be presented by Julie Hall, vice president of the Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian and Transgendered Mountaineers.

Pizza will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The film and discussion series is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Office of Student Life – Multicultural Programs.
