West Virginia University welcomed approximately 5,000 freshmen, and some 29,000 students altogether, with open arms on Friday, Aug. 20.

After moving into their residence halls and saying goodbye to their families, students were thrust into University life with a variety of activities.

They were given the opportunity to let loose at a free concert, interact with others at picnics and organized events, get their questions answered at information fairs and were officially recognized as part of the class of 2014 at a special welcome event.

But most of all, they became Mountaineers.
