With the 2010 Mountaineer football season just days away, the University Chapter of the West Virginia University Alumni Association is ready to celebrate with alumni, family and friends as part of its 7th annual Countdown to Kickoff to be held on Sunday, Aug. 29, from 5-8 p.m. at The Erickson Alumni Center.

The event, traditionally held the Sunday prior to the first game of the season, features guest speaker WVU Assistant Head Football Coach Steve Dunlap and appearances by Mountaineer Mascot Brock Burwell, the WVU Pep Band and WVU cheerleaders. The alumni chapter also will host its annual corn hole tournament as part of this signature event.

“Our Countdown to Kickoff is a great event for Mountaineer families,” said Casey Quinlan, University Chapter president. “We will have good food, fun games, prizes and a wonderful atmosphere to celebrate our alma mater. We hope alumni and friends in the area will bring their kids, friends and other family members to the alumni center as we celebrate the upcoming season.”

The Countdown to Kickoff is open to alumni and friends of WVU. The cost is $15 for advance tickets and $20 at the door. Admission is free for children 5 and under, and the cost for students (ages 6-17) is $10. The cost includes food, beverages, raffles, a silent auction and games. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the chapter’s scholarship fund, which helps local students attend WVU.

For more information, including registration information, contact Tara Curtis at 304-293-4731 or e-mail universitychapter@gmail.com. The deadline to RSVP is Friday, Aug. 27. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

The University Chapter of the WVU Alumni Association helps keep WVU alumni and friends connected to their Mountaineer family. Members of the chapter participate in social activities, such as game-watching events and the annual Countdown to Kickoff, network with other professionals and help the community through special projects such as Habitat for Humanity and Adopt-A-Street.
