The WVU Community Arts Program is currently registering students for fall classes at the Creative Arts Center at WVU. Registration for classes in art, theatre, music, dance, visual arts and literary arts for students of all ages will be held Aug. 16 to Sept. 3.

The program offers private music lessons in piano, organ, voice, jazz singing, brass, percussion, woodwind, strings, Suzuki violin, harp, guitar, theory and composition, jazz improvisation, recording technology and conducting. Private lessons in art, dance, theatre and literary and media arts are also available upon request, depending on teacher availability.

New classes this year include the Children’s Theatre production of Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka Jr.,” Soft Sculpture for Adults, Combo Workshop: Poetry and Non-Fiction for Adults, and Exploring Flash Fiction (ages high school through adult).

The program has also brought back the popular Let’s Dance Like the Stars! Ballroom Dancing for Adults.

Other classes include:

Art
Young People’s Saturday Art Studio (ages 5-12); Create Your Own Monster (ages 6-10); Drawing Fun for Kids (ages 7-12); Classical Drawing Fundamentals (ages 13 to adult); Beginning Painting (ages 7-12 and 13 to adult); Cartoons, Zines and Comic Books (ages 11-15); Intro to Clothes Design for Teens (ages 13-17); Fashion Design Sketch (ages 10 to adult); and Introduction to Digital Photography (ages 13 and up).

Theatre
Play Production (high school to adult); and Children’s Theatre Production: Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka Jr.” (ages 7-15). Students in this two-semester course will appear in public performances of the play “Willy Wonka Jr.,” to be held during the spring semester.

Dance
Ballet (ages 3-4, 5-7 and 8-12); Beginning Ballet for Teens; Dance for the Young (ages 3-4); Creative/Modern Dance (ages 5-8 and 13 to adult); Beginning Tap Dance (ages 4-6 and 7-12); Tap for the Young (ages 3-9); and Tap and Movement for Adults.

Literary Arts
Creative Writing Fundamentals: An Introduction to Poetry, Fiction and Nonfiction (13 to adult); and Creative Writing for Kids: Writing for Fun? Impossible! (middle school students).

Music
Music for Babies (infants and toddlers); Explore & Enjoy (ages 2-3); Beginning Group Piano for Kids (ages 6-9); Music Theory I (ages 8-12); So You Want to Write Music? (ages 10 to adult); Introductory Harp Class (all ages); Pedals, Pipes and Pizza! Intro to the Pipe Organ, with a Pizza Party! (ages 10-18); Piano for Fun (adults); Flutopia Adult Flute Choir; Steel Band Ensemble (ages 9 to adult); and Community Arts Orchestra (junior high to adult).

Bruceton Mills and Brandonville Classes
Classes to be held in the Bruceton Mills and Brandonville area include:

Ballet (ages 4-6 and 7-9); Creative Modern Dance (ages 10-13); Drawing Fun for Kids (ages 7-12); Beginning Painting (ages 7-12 and 13 to adult); Classical Drawing Fundamentals (13 to adult); and Introduction to Digital Photography (13 to adult).

Office hours are 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, in Room 401A of the Creative Arts Center. The Community Arts Program Office will be closed Sept. 6 to observe the Labor Day holiday. Students may register for classes after the official registration period ends, but a late fee will be charged.
