WVU alumni and friends are invited to grab their clubs and take part in the 2010 Gold & Blue Golf Tournament at Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa on Friday, July 30.

The 68th annual tournament is open to the first 120 golfers and will be held at the beautiful Lakeview Course. The cost is $150 per golfer and includes greens/cart fees, lunch and dinner, door prizes and much more. Proceeds from the golf tournament benefit the Marmaduke H. Dent Society which provides funds for enhancement of alumni facilities and programming.

Cindy Morgan, who portrayed Lacy Underall in the cult classic Caddyshack, will serve as the official starter for the tournament, which begins with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.

Steve Douglas, president and CEO of the WVU Alumni Association, says this long-standing tradition is a great way to connect with fellow graduates while supporting the Association’s efforts.

“For nearly 70 years, Mountaineers have gathered together to enjoy the scenic beauty of our state while catching up with friends and classmates,” Douglas said. “It’s a great opportunity for them to return to Morgantown and celebrate our university. We are especially excited to have Cindy Morgan joining us this year to help us kick off this event. We hope alumni and friends will come out and enjoy this fun event while taking advantage of the wonderful amenities at beautiful Lakeview Resort.”

In addition to the Friday event, sponsors of the tournament will enjoy a pre-tournament reception on July 29 with a meet-and-greet with Morgan. Information about the tournament, including sponsorship opportunities, is available at http://alumni.wvu.edu/gold_blue_weekend.

Gold & Blue On-Line Auction under way

Mountaineers everywhere will have an opportunity to bid on entertainment and sports memorabilia, including autographed photos of WVU and NBA legends Jerry West and Hot Rod Hundley, a WVU Alumni Association “Game Day” package, memorabilia autographed by country music star Brad Paisley, and other items as part of the 2010 Gold & Blue On-Line Auction.

The auction kicked July 1 and runs through Aug. 2. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund of the WVU Alumni Association, which provides more than 300 scholarships each year to deserving students. A presentation of the items can be found at http://alumni.galleries.wvu.edu/r/images/galleries/gold_blue_on_line_auction. The auction can also be accessed by visiting the Association’s website – http://alumni.wvu.edu – and clicking on the “Gold & Blue Weekend” icon on the left side of the page.

The online auction was created four years ago as part of the WVU Alumni Association’s annual Gold & Blue Weekend. Since its inception, the auction has raised nearly $15,000 for the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund.
