The West Virginia Council of International Programs is holding a Cinco de Mayo Celebration from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, in the Community Room at the Mountaineer Mall.

Tickets for the “Cinco de Mayo Fiesta” are $15 each, $5 for children under age 10, and $95 for a table of eight adults. Money for the tickets will raise funds for scholarships. For ticket information, contact Cecilia Orrego at (304) 319-1123 or cecilia_reginap@hotmail.com.

The event is family-friendly and features cultural activities, such as a demonstration of Mexican music, a fashion show with traditional dresses and folk dancing with professional dancers from Mexico.

The unique international program is coordinated by West Virginia University’s Office of International Programs, in cooperation with WVCIP’s 22-member board of directors. WVCIP is a non-profit organization based in Morgantown, and affiliated with CIP-USA based in Cleveland. WVCIP volunteers regularly host international visitors in Morgantown. Each CIP participant lives with four different families over a four-month period. In exchange, the participants share their expertise, skills and experiences with the agency’s staff.

Local residents interested in joining WVCIP can contact coordinator Lisa Dunn at 304-293-6955 (x5). For more information, visit CIP’s webpage at http://cip.wvu.edu/
