WHO: Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
WHAT: The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the top military adviser to the President of the United States, will be visiting Morgantown and the campus of West Virginia University to participate in a town hall meeting and various forums related to issues affecting veterans and their families. The sessions will focus on efforts to create broad-based support for integrating returning veterans into the Morgantown area community and region.

WHERE: West Virginia University Mountainlair; Morgantown Event Center at Waterfront Place
NOTE: Area journalists covering Admiral Mullen’s visit are asked to arrive at the Waterfront Hotel lobby, Two Waterfront Place, between 6-6:30 a.m. for media credentialing and a security check. Parking is suggested in the Event Center garage. If you chose to cover individual events listed below, you will be credentialed at those venues (Oglebay Plaza, Mountainlair Ballrooms, Morgantown Event Center at Waterfront Place) and may be delayed getting into the venue . Following credentialing, bus transportation from Waterfront Place Hotel will be provided to the following locations:
6-6:30 a.m. – Media Credentialing, Waterfront place Hotel Lobby
8:10 a.m. – Motorcade departs Hotel for WVU Downtown Campus
8:30 a.m. – Laying of Wreath at USS WV mast and bell, Oglebay Plaza, West Virginia University
8:45 a.m. – Continental Breakfast, Mountainlair Ballrooms, West Virginia University
9:00 a.m. – Veterans Education Forum, Mountainlair Ballrooms
Panelists include:
-Trisha Gyurke, Director of WVU Employment, to speak on WVU’s veteran friendly campus and benefits of hiring veterans
-Terry Miller, WVU Veteran’s Advocate, assists student veterans with VA education benefits and support services
-Anne Hirsh, Co-Director of the Job Accommodation Network headquartered at WVU, a federal program that facilitates the employment of disabled workers
-Steve Ernst, President of the Student Veterans Group, to discuss support veterans receive and what their needs are
-Ian Kellems, counselor at the Carruth Center, who works with student veterans
-Jeff Orndorff, 4-H WVU Extension Specialist, coordinator of Operation: Military Kids, a Department of Defense-funded project
