West Virginia University’s Commuter Student Programs is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Tuesday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the main lounge of WVU’s Mountaineer Station parking facility.
The facility is located on Van Voohris Road, near WVU’s Health Sciences Center. WVU Parking Management will provide free parking at the facility for up to six hours to those who visit the facility to donate blood.
To be eligible to donate a person must be healthy, at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and may not have given whole blood in the past 56 days or a double red cell donation in the last 112 days. People may not give blood if they have received a notification from the American Red Cross asking them not to do so. Those who have a blood donor card or another form of government-issued identification are asked to present it at the time of donation.
Donors are encouraged to register beforehand at https://www.givelife.org/index.cfm?group=registration&hlc=wvucommuter&hostlookupcode=wvucommuter. Walk-ins are welcome.
Because of the lack of donations throughout the winter months, area blood supplies are critically low. Now more than ever, eligible donors are encouraged to donate.
