West Virginia University stakes out a spot at the “Crossroads of the World” next week when two video screens – one in Times Square and the other across from Madison Square Garden – will feature a 30-second video, created for the Big East Basketball and NCAA basketball tournaments ending with a direct link to WVU’s unique online news community: wvutoday.wvu.edu

A mobile tracking tool, or “quick response” code, printed on students’ t-shirts and free business cards will also connect audiences to the wvutoday web site. Those with a camera feature and proper software on their cell phones will be able to take a picture of the two-dimensional bar code, and their phone’s Internet browser will direct them to the wvutoday home page.

“We deliver WVU’s news and its stories – in print, video, audio, photography — to the WVU nation (and the world), everyday, through wvutoday,” said Chris Martin, vice president for University Relations. “wvutoday is a one-of-a-kind online news community that should be on everyone’s everyday app/iGoogle/browser bookmark list. It’s the way to get exclusive, immediate WVU news where you are. Everyday.”

The video will be shown on the CBS Spectacular board on 42nd Street in Times Square, and across from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station on Macy’s Vision Big East board located at the corner of 34th St. and 7th Ave.

Millions of people pass these venues every day. The spot is also expected to run during televised men’s and women’s tournament games and on the scoreboard rotation at Madison Square Garden, reaching millions of other viewers.

The video will also be available on the University’s YouTube site: http://www.youtube.com/westvirginiau .

Additionally, WVU has set up blog sites where fans can post messages of support for the men’s and women’s teams and coaches at http://www.wvu.edu .

Students and alumni will also be Tweeting live from the tournament and various events surrounding it in New York. Follow their Tweets on: wvutoday.wvu.edu .
