West Virginia University will show a film on politicians who campaign against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community on Thursday, March 11.

The Brown Bag Lunch Film and Discussion Series will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Gluck Theatre in the Mountainlair.

“Outrage,” an HBO documentary, was directed by Academy Award nominated Kirby Dick. The film uses a combination of archival news footage and exclusive interviews with politicians and members of the media to explore the media’s complicity in keeping secrets about politicians’ efforts to lobby for anti-gay legislation, despite the growing efforts to “out” them by gay rights organizations and bloggers.

The cast includes former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey, Massachusetts congressman Barney Frank, former Idaho Sen. Larry Craig and author and gay rights activist Larry Kramer.

The film and discussion will be presented by Charles Shields, president of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian and Transgendered Mountaineers.

The event, sponsored by WVU’s Office of Student Life-Multicultural Programs, is free and open to the public. Pizza will be provided first-come, first-serve.
