Members of the Latin American Student Organization at West Virginia University love their culture and sharing it with others – especially those who may be in need.

On Saturday, March 13, students from the organization will be cooking dinner for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Morgantown as part of their Family Dinner Program. Dinner is expected to be served around 5 p.m.

“LASO will be volunteering at RMH for reasons none other than to do something that people from their cultures like to do, and that is cook really good food and share,” said Cathy Chickerell, organization president.

The students will be preparing Mexican enchiladas, and will pay for the dinner supplies with the $5 dues that members must pay every semester.

“This is the first year that LASO has volunteered for the Family Dinner Program and I hope that future officers will carry on the tradition,” Chickerell said.

The organization is open to all WVU students. The group meets once a month and hosts an activity at various locations.

In the past, they have conducted bingo games, dinners, dances and Cinco de Mayo festivals. They also participate in University and local events such as the International Festival held every October.
