Media Advisory: 100,000 W.Va. children screened in CARDIAC Project

WHO: William Neal, M.D., CARDIAC Project, Director, WVU School of Medicine; State Sen. Roman Prezioso, Marion County; State Sen. Ron Stollings, M.D., Boone County; John Hudson, Superintendant, Boone County Schools; Brenda Viars, Principal, Sherman Elementary School; fifth graders at Sherman Elementary School.

WHAT: A celebration of the screening of 100,000 W.Va. school children through the CARDIAC Project, a chronic disease risk surveillance and intervention initiative designed to combat the unacceptably high prevalence of heart disease and diabetes in West Virginia.

WHEN: 2 p.m.

WHERE: Sherman Elementary School, Comfort, Boone County, W.Va.

WHY: Initiated in 1998, the CARDIAC Project was established as a means of reversing an unacceptable risk of cardiovascular disease in W.Va. children and families. The very first screening took place at Sherman Elementary.
