Piano Duo Joanne Kong and Paul Hanson of the University of Richmond will perform a guest artist recital at the Creative Arts Center, Monday, Oct. 19, at 8:15 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A). The event is free and open to the public.

Their program of two-piano and duet music will feature Russian and French masterworks, including Igor Stravinsky’s “Concerto for Two Solo Pianos,” Maurice Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite,” and Olivier Messiaen’s monumental “Visions de l’Amen.”

Hanson and Kong have been critically acclaimed for their impeccable musicianship, mastery of tone color, and exacting ensemble.

Hanson has appeared at concert venues throughout the country as a specialist in 20th Century music, with repertoire including the solo piano music of Arnold Schoenberg, and works by Charles Ives, Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Elliott Carter.

Kong has been recognized for her versatility as both a pianist and harpsichordist, is a noted Bach specialist, and received the Grand Prize in the 1985 International Piano Recording Competition.

Both pianists are on the music faculty at the University of Richmond, and Kong is the director of the Department of Music’s accompanying and chamber music programs.
