Before the Mountaineers take on the Thundering Herd, the West Virginia University Alumni Association is gearing up for a busy weekend prior to the WVU-Marshall game on Saturday, Oct. 17.

The association will once again welcome alumni and friends to an open house on Friday, Oct. 16 at the new Erickson Alumni Center. Visitors are invited to stop by beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing through 6 p.m. Volunteers from the Emeritus Club, one of the alumni association’s constituent groups, will be on hand to provide tours of the center at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m.

“We know many of our graduates will be returning to Morgantown for the WVU-Marshall game, so we wanted to be able to offer an opportunity for them to stop by and see our new center,” said Stephen L. Douglas, president and CEO of the WVU Alumni Association.

Alumni and friends in town for the game are encouraged to check out the men’s and women’s basketball teams during the Mountaineer Madness event at the Coliseum on Friday night. The madness kicks off at 8:30 p.m. Admission to the event is free with an autograph session at the green and gold gates from 6:30-8 p.m. A slam dunk contest, a free throw shooting contest featuring former Mountaineer players and scrimmages by both teams will highlight the Mountaineer Madness festivities.

The alumni association’s popular Game Day celebration will take place on Saturday morning (Oct. 17) beginning at 1 p.m. in the Mountaineer Courtyard of the Erickson Alumni Center. Alumni and friends interested in attending the event should pre-register before Oct. 20 to ensure their participation in this event. Reservations should be made one week prior to the event. The cost is $10 and includes food and entertainment by the local band, The New Relics. To register for the event, contact the WVU Alumni Association at 304-293-4731.
