Local music favorites Big Ass Manatee, One Hundred Hurricanes, MonstaLung and The Gentlemen will be performing at the West Virginia University Mountainlair Ballroom on Saturday, Sept. 26. The show will begin at 8 p.m. Admission is free for WVU students, but all students must obtain tickets, which are available now at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center box offices.

Big Ass Manatee has developed one of the fastest growing cult followings in Morgantown’s local music scene, thanks in part to creative interpretations of the hit songs they perform. With an electronic, hip-hop and pop edge, BAM continually creates a high-energy dance party atmosphere at all of its shows by sampling tracks from various artists, such as the Black Eyed Peas, Michael Jackson and Busta Rhymes.

One Hundred Hurricanes draw heavy influences from the likes of The Beatles, The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys and have been on the fast track in the Morgantown music scene. The band recently released their first full-length record, “60 Years Under the Stars,” to much acclaim. According to the band, the album is full of meaty guitar riffs, eardrum busting kit work and culturally-aware lyrics delivered by a classic rock ‘n’ roll approach to vocals.

DJ MonstaLung runs a production company called Soundvizion Recordingz and churns out hits as he hears them. A familiar name affiliated with MonstaLung is Morgantown rapper 6’6 240, who has become known to the local community as Mr. DubVee after the wild success of his WVU Football anthem, “The Gold N Blue” in 2006. The song spent several weeks at No. 1 on the local radio charts; he has since created a remix for the 2010 football season. He began his career a decade ago with one of West Virginia’s founding hip-hop groups, 304 Reconz and continues to bring in large crowds everywhere he plays.

The Gentlemen are an eight-piece Celtic punk band from Morgantown that combines traditional Irish folk with American punk rock. The band has a knack for high-energy performances with a big sound and sing-a-long anthems. This past May, the band released its first full-length record, “Stick To Your Guns” and has been touring up and down the east coast to sell-out crowds.

Admission is free for WVU Students, but all students must obtain a ticket by calling 304-293-SHOW or at the campus box offices with a valid Mountaineer card. General public tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the Mountainlair, CAC box offices, ticketmaster.com, 304-293-SHOW and all Ticketmaster outlets including Giant Eagle on Greenbag Road.
