A group of West Virginia University Young Democrats will travel to the University of Maryland on Thursday, Sept. 17 to hear President Barack Obama speak on health care reform.

The rally will be held at 11 a.m. at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md.

The rally comes on the heels of Obama’s health care speech to a joint session of Congress Wednesday, Sept. 9, which was predicted to energize the party’s base.

“The Young Democrats have several health care-focused events in the works for this semester, and this rally will be the ideal way to get everyone enthused,” said WVU Young Democrats President Erin Beck.

Young adults, ages 18 to 29, are the group most supportive of President Obama’s plan to overhaul health care, according to a poll by SurveyUSA.

Those interested in the rally, can follow the WVU Young Democrats on Twitter. Beck will be tweeting live from the event. Her comments can be viewed at http://www.twitter.com/wvuyoungdems.

The WVU Young Democrats are also planning a health care forum for later in the semester, during which professors and other experts in health and policy will speak about the proposed health care legislation and answer questions.
