Matt Wilson, an associate professor in the Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences of West Virginia University’s Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences, has been named an outstanding early career alumnus of Purdue University’s Department of Animal Science. Wilson will be recognized at a ceremony on Nov. 13 in West Lafayette, IN.

Wilson earned his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, and his master’s and doctorate degrees in the physiology of reproduction from Iowa State University. He came to WVU in 2000 as a post-doctoral research fellow and joined the faculty in 2002. He was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 2008.

Since joining the WVU faculty in 2002, he has acquired more than $150,000 in research funding and published 12 refereed manuscripts. He has co-authored an additional 30 refereed journal articles, a book chapter, conference proceedings, 10 technical publications and 48 abstracts.

Wilson works hard to transfer his excitement about research to undergraduates. His teaching reviews are excellent and he is frequently called upon to share his expertise as a guest lecturer in several different classes. Wilson received a 2008-09 Mid-Career Faculty award from the Davis-Michael Scholars Program.

In 2006, Wilson received the Young Scientist Research Award for the Northeast Region of the American Society of Animal Science and American Dairy Science Association.
