West Virginia University Extended Learning is making it easy for prospective students to learn about online and off-campus programs on “Virtual Tuesdays,” a series of information sessions on the Internet.

Each week, faculty from one of the extended learning programs will be online to talk about their programs and answer questions. Most of the sessions will be at noon or in late afternoon.

“While we provide program information on our Web site including online chat with extended learning staff, we know that students often have more detailed questions,” said Julie Whiteman, recruiting coordinator for extended learning. “Virtual information sessions allow faculty and students to connect in a time-saving, cost-effective way.”

Students will register on the Web site and then receive log-on information. If they miss the session, it’s archived for the prospective student to review later. The popularity of these sessions over the past year prompted the staff to make it a regular part of their recruiting efforts.

The extended learning staff will continue to hold on-site information sessions around the state as needed. The first session will be at West Virginia Northern Community College in Wheeling on Sept. 30 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. The staff will then travel to the Martinsburg Holiday Inn on Oct. 7 from 3:30-6:30 p.m.

WVU offers nearly 30 degrees online and off-campus through extended learning. In addition to education, health care, and professional programs, WVU has seen tremendous growth in “degree completion” programs for working adults who want to complete a bachelor’s degree.

The Regents Bachelor of Arts degree allows students to combine coursework and professional experience. The multidisciplinary studies degree enables students to package three minors to create a degree unique to their professional goals.
