Unprecedented partnership creating Alzheimer’s outreach program to be announced with leadership of Senator Rockefeller, outreach program to target physicians, caregivers

An unprecedented and powerful partnership between the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute (BRNI); West Virginia Medical Foundation; Alzheimer’s Association, West Virginia Chapter and the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services will be announced on Sept.14. Senator Jay Rockefeller, founder of BRNI and a long-time champion for Alzheimer’s research, education and outreach, will lead the announcement of the West Virginia Alzheimer’s Outreach and Registry Program at the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute. The West Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association is the official sponsor of the program.

WHY: 5.3 million Americans currently suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, including more than 44,000 West Virginians aged 65 and over. This year nearly 85,000 West Virginians will be caregivers for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease at an annual cost of over $800 million in direct costs and lost wages. There is no reliable early diagnosis for Alzheimer’s disease, nor is there any reliable treatment or cure available.
