The Pastoral Care Department of West Virginia University Hospitals will host a workshop for clergy and caregivers titled “Living with Compassion: Ministry to Those Suffering With Dementia and Alzheimer’s.” The day-long event will be Friday (Sept. 25) at the Suncrest United Methodist Church fellowship hall, 479 Van Voorhis Road in Morgantown.

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and feature a medical overview of dementia and Alzheimer’s presented by Kristina Curci, M.D., a geriatric psychiatry specialist from WVU. A presentation on ethical issues and decision making led by Lisa DeVault, a medical social worker at WVU, and “What Pastors and Churches Can Do to Support and Help,” led by the Rev. John Hardman, chaplain and manager of pastoral care at WVU, round out the afternoon portion of the program.

The event is free and open to the public and includes a light breakfast. Lunch is on your own. Registration is required: call 304-598-4185 or email millerje@wvuh.com. For more information, contact Mary Ragland, director of pastoral care at WVU Hospitals, at 304-598-4000, ext. 73060.
