West Virginia University graduate Nicholas Hoylman’s internship experience helped him land a job right out of college.
“My internship was integral to finding a job. The real world experience I received through my internship allowed me to get a taste of the corporate world, and these skills could have transferred anywhere,” said Hoylman, a finance graduate from Fairmont.
Using WVU Career Services Center’s online career assistance Web site MountaineerTRAK, Hoylman obtained an internship – and shortly thereafter a job – with the global consulting company Accenture.
Now, to help make it easier for WVU students to find internships in their career of choice, the center has entered into an agreement to become the premiere university in West Virginia for a new online internship search program called West Virginia Intern. Students can access the program by visiting http://westvirginiaintern.com and take advantage of all the services free of charge. West Virginia Intern is a member of the nationwide internship company USAIntern.
“Internships are invaluable when it comes to finding a permanent job. Every student should intern at a company or organization related to their career of choice if possible,” said David Durham, director of WVU’s Career Services Center. “This program will make locating internship opportunities much easier and in turn make students more marketable after graduation.”
The Web site allows students to search for internships, externships, co-ops and volunteer programs around the state and country. Students can also take advantage of other services offered on the site, including creating a cover letter and resume or attaching the resume to the site making it easily accessible to employers.
Students can also search and apply for internships by viewing opportunities posted by employers on MountaineerTRAK. WVU students can access MountaineerTRAK by visiting any of the kiosks located around campus and swiping their student identification card, or online at http://careerservices.wvu.edu/home/mountaineertrak_logins.
