More than 700 WVU engineering freshmen are expected to attend the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources’ annual Freshman EngineerFEST Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Assembly Rooms A and B of the National Research Center for Coal and Energy.

More than 700 engineering freshmen at West Virginia University are expected to attend the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources’ annual Freshman EngineerFEST Wednesday, Sept. 2.

The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. in Assembly Rooms A and B of the National Research Center for Coal and Energy.

It is designed to give incoming freshmen the opportunity to learn about and get involved with the many student organizations in the College, said Robin Hensel, the College’s assistant dean for freshman experience.

“Getting involved with student organizations is a great way for undergraduates to engage in the college experience and find people with similar interests,” said Hensel. “We have so many student organizations that just about everyone can find a group that is right for them.”

Organizations that will be represented at the event include the WVU student chapters of:

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Amizade, Association for Computing Machinery, Career Services Center, Center for Civic Engagement, Chi Epsilon, Design Build Fly, ECO Car, Engineering Residential Complex, Engineers Without Borders, Eta Kappa Nu, Institute of Industrial Engineers, NASA Space Grant Consortium, National Society of Black Engineers, Office of International Programs, Society of Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, Society of Petroleum Engineering, Society of Women Engineers, Student Partnership for the Advancement of Cosmic Exploration, Student Society for the Advancement of Biometrics, Tau Beta Pi, WVNano and the WVU Free Software Group.

Other students are also welcome to attend the event, said Hensel.
