The West Virginia University volleyball team dominated today, in day two of the WVU Classic, for an overall second-place finish with wins over Towson and Saint Francis, Pa.

The Mountaineers are now 2-1 on the season after sweeping the Tigers 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-23) and the Red Flash 3-0 (25-14, 25-17).

In their first meeting of the day, the Mountaineers led Towson the entire match as they posted a team hitting percentage of .216 and recorded 9.5 total blocks. Senior right side hitter Abby Raines led with 13 kills, while junior middle blocker Abby Norman followed with 10.

With the second-place spot on the line against the Red Flash, the Mountaineers continued their momentum from earlier to earn their second victory of the day.

In game one, junior middle blocker Lauren Evans powered the Mountaineers with five kills and an .833 hitting percentage, while sophomore setter Kari Post led with 11 assists and two service aces, including one to win the set.

After once again dominating in game two, the Mountaineers battled in game three to gain a 14-11 lead. Then, after a kill from Raines, WVU went on 7-0 run and never looked back.

Raines once again led the team in the match with 10 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore libero Bonnie West recorded 20 digs.

For their efforts in the WVU Classic, Raines and Norman were awarded with all-tournament team honors.

Raines recorded a total of 33 kills and 33 digs, with two double-doubles on the weekend, while Norman landed 23 kills and nine total blocks.

WVU is set to return to action at the Denver Invitational on Friday, Sept 4, with a 3 p.m. match against Eastern Illinois.
