The West Virginia University community is encouraged to “Bring on the Mountaineers” on Friday (Sept 4) at WVU’s largest pep rally of the year.

Fan Fest will begin at 5 p.m. on the Mountainlair Plaza. The event will be moved to the Mountainlair ballrooms if there is rain.

West Virginia Radio’s Tony Caridi will host the event.

fanfest7 Appearances will be made by WVU President James P. Clements, the WVU football team, Coach Bill Stewart, varsity cheerleaders, Mountaineer Rebecca Durst, the PRIDE marching band, men’s soccer Coach Marlon LeBlanc, Student Body President Jason Zucarri, Vice-President Whitney Peters and Mountaineer Maniacs Director Cassie Werner.

“To me, Fan Fest is the kick-off of the Mountaineer year. We celebrate the beginning of the year by holding a huge pep rally to get the students and the community fired up for what is sure to be another exciting season. We are very excited for this year, and look forward to cheering on our teams to victory,” said Werner.

Fan Fest coincides with National College Colors Day, and all in attendance are encouraged to flaunt their gold and blue.

Free food and drink will be offered. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to win a variety of giveaways, including t-shirts and foam flying- WV’s. The event is open to the public.

Prior to Fan Fest, the Mountaineer Maniacs will be distributing t-shirts to all 2009-10 members. Distribution will begin at 3 p.m. in the Mountainlair ballrooms. The first 2,000 maniacs to receive their shirts will also get a special giveaway item.

Fan Fest is sponsored by the Mountaineer Maniacs, Student Affairs, Student Government Association, University Events, University Relations and Coca Cola.
