In the past year, West Virginia Universitys Alpha Phi sorority has raised about $30,000 for charity, more than 40 members of Chi Omega sorority have been recognized for academic excellence, and WVU s Kappa Sigma fraternity was selected by its national office to be one of the first chapters to institute a special program on brother interaction and conduct.

These and other WVU Greeks were recently recognized by the University for their exemplary service, academic success, recruitment and retention efforts in a formal ceremony.

I am very impressed with the accomplishments of the students; the recognition is well deserved, said Ron Justice, director of WVU s Student Organizations Services. The service to the University and the community is important for all involved.

In 2008, WVU s Greek system raised over $50,000 for various causes and organizations, and it completed 10,000-plus hours of community service.

Chi Omega sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity were selected as the Best Sorority/Fraternity on Campus. The chapters were honored because of their success in displaying the four pillars of Greek lifescholarship, service, brotherhood/sisterhood and leadership.

Chi Omega was also recognized as Best Sorority on Campus in 2008.

This is a really big accomplishment because it is very rare for a sorority to win twice in a row, said Chi Omega President Katie Gatian, an aerospace and mechanical engineering major from Morgantown.I think that our overall participation in fraternity philanthropies and involvement on campus have had a big impact on us winning this award. We also keep in close contact with our alumni.

Im proud to say that the past year has been very successful, said Student Government Association President and Sigma Alpha Epsilon member Jason Zuccari, a multidisciplinary studies major from McLean, Va.Weve only been on campus for a few years now, but weve already made our mark.

The past two student body presidents have been brothers of SAE ,he noted.Weve got great leadership skills and are good at making a difference on campus.
