  • The Sustainable Schools West Virginia Summit at the Waterfront Place Hotel will focus on sustainability opportunities within higher education and county school systems. Registration is required.   • An Earth Day forumorganized by WVU political science capstone studentscalledA Sustainable State: West Virginias Role in Environmental Policywill be held from 3:15-6 p.m. in the Mountainlair ballrooms. Speakers for the event include Paul Kinder, director of science and technology for the Canaan Valley Institute; James Kotcon, associate professor of plant and soil sciences at WVU ; and Trina Wafle, associate director of the National Research Center for Coal and Energy. Other presenters will be from the WVU chapter of the Sierra Club and the Society of Environmental Professionals. WVU students and local organizations will have displays. The event is free. Prizes will be given out to participants, and refreshments will be served.


Tuesday, April 21


  • The Division of Design and Merchandising in the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences will host Home Energy Conservation Day. Students and community members are welcome to attend a demonstration of energy-saving techniques and products. Two sessions are being offered10 a.m.-noon and 3-6 p.m.at 848 Riverview Drive on the WVU Evansdale Campus.


Wednesday, April 22


  • WVU Transportation and Parking will promote WE GO ! WVUs campaign for alternative transportation, including carpool, vanpool and car-sharing programs at the Walnut Personal Rapid Transit station at 10 a.m. There will also be an unveiling of a new PRT eco-vehiclewith Earth-friendly messages and graphics.

Friday, April 24


  • Environmental Film Festival at the Gluck Theatre in the Mountainlair featuring a variety of short films such asFrench Fries To Goabout the first city bus in the nation to run on 100 percent pure biodiesel. The festival is free and open to the public. Films will run continuously from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • A-WEAR-Ness Campaign, a clothing/textile recycling program organized by the Division of Design and Merchandising in the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences, will accept donations from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum Blue Gate and in the Mountainlair. Donations may include any usable or unusable, old, worn or torn textile or apparel item, such as clothing, shoes, belts, purses, stuffed animals, bed linens, drapes, towels and blankets.
