Army ROTC students from West Virginia University, West Virginia State University and James Madison University took part in the annual Regional Joint Spring Field Training Exercise March 27-29 at Camp Dawson in Kingwood. Of those who participated, about 80 were from WVU .

Students underwent a variety of combat training exercises, including managing traffic control points, day/night land navigation, patrolling, weapons ranges and other squad scenario tactical exercises.

The Army ROTC provides students with the tools, training and experiences they need to become officers in the U.S. Army. Student-cadets develop leadership and management skills as they learn about military science.

There are about 250 students currently enrolled in WVU ’s program, which was recognized as the best in the Eastern Region in 2008 and awarded the General Douglas MacArthur Award.

Since the Army ROTC was established in 1916, more than 500,000 men and women have become Army officers through the program.
