West Virginia University students and faculty will be recognized for their outstanding achievements during annual Weekend of Honors activities April 3-5.

Events include individual award ceremonies and celebrations by many of the Universitys schools and colleges, open houses, a Ring Day ceremony and a University Choir concert at the WVU Creative Arts Center .

About 115 students will be inducted into WVU honoraries during a special event at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 3, at Touchdown Terrace in Milan Puskar Stadium. The event is for inductees only.

Of those being welcomed into the honoraries, 35 are joining Helvetia (sophomores); 45, Chimes (juniors); and 34, Mortar Board (seniors).

The Weekend of Honors is a special time in the life of the University because it brings the WVU community together to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our students and faculty,said Stephanie Ballard Conrad, interim director of University Events.WVU has a rich tradition of academic excellence, and its important to recognize individuals for their achievements.

Inductees will enjoy hearing from WVU speakers on the core values of honoraries, she added. Diana Martinelli, a professor in the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism, will discuss academics, while Carolyn Atkins, a speech pathology and audiology professor, will talk about leadership and Matt Delligatti, a law student and Fairmont mayor, will focus on service.
