James P. Clements , current provost and vice president for academic affairs at Towson University in Maryland, was named president-elect of West Virginia University Friday (March 6) and will become the Universitys 23rd president, effective June 30.
Clements, 44, is a first-generation college graduate who has experienced the transformative power of higher education.
Beth and Iand our familyare excited and honored by todays decision,Clements, a native of Arlington, Va., told a crowd of faculty, staff, students and others who gathered at Erickson Alumni Center for the news conference.
During this process, I have not only had a chance to meet with the search committee and Board but the people who make up this great University, and you all have one very important thing in common: You love this place and are full of energy and ideas. I cant wait to call Morgantown and WVU home.
