The West Virginia University Womens Choir and University Choir will presentBach to Broadwayat 3:15 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 22) in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre of the Creative Arts Center .

The first half of the concert will feature a performance of Johann Sebastian Bachs famousCantata 80: A Mighty Fortress is Our God.Based on a hymn tune by Martin Luther, this multi-movement work will join together the choirs, along with soloists and a chamber orchestra. Student Jeffry Blake Johnson will be the conductor.

Also, the Womens Choir will be featured in a set of Johannes BrahmsSongs for Womens Voices,conducted by student Min Sue Kim.

The second half of the concert will feature excerpts from four Broadway shows: Monty PythonsSpamalot,City of Angels,Thoroughly Modern MillieandTitanic, the Musical.The Broadway scenes will be staged and choreographed, and WVU voice faculty members Nicholas Perna and William Koehler will make cameo appearances as King Arthur and Capt. E.J. Smith, respectively.

This is a performance that will be enjoyable for the entire family,said Kathleen Shannon , director of the choral program in the WVU Division of Music .
