West Virginia University Hospitals is one of three state groups that won a 2008 Swiggy Award for outstanding Web site design.

The West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services ( www.wvseniorservices.gov) took first place; the Gus R. Douglass Land-Grant Institute at West Virginia State University ( www.grdi.wvstateu.edu ), second place; and WVU Hospitals ( www.health.wvu.edu ), third place.

The Swiggy Awardscreated by the Statewide Internet Group , a user group of state webmastersare given to the top three Web sites that exemplify design excellence in state government, K-12 schools or higher education. The purpose of the contest is to recognize state organizationsefforts in creating and maintaining well-designed, helpful, accessible and easy-to-use Web sites for the citizens of West Virginia.

The winning sites can be accessed through http://www.swig.wv.gov . A committee of SWIG members representing various state organizations judged the entries. The Web sites were assessed in the following areas: general impressions, writing, navigation and usability, layout and aesthetics, functionality, accessibility and Web standards.

WVU previously won Swiggy Awards for WVU Today ( wvutoday.wvu.edu ) and WVU Downloads ( wvudownloads.wvu.edu ).

SWIG is a user group of the state Information Technology Council. Participation in SWIG is diverse and includes people from across the state responsible for maintaining, developing or coordinating Web sites for state agencies, the K-12 school system or higher education. The WVU Office of Information Technology helped sponsor the 2008 Swiggy Awards.
