A leading expert on the global sports industry will give a talk at 1 p.m. Dec. 4 in Room 251 of the West Virginia University Coliseum.

John Nauright will speak onKilling Local Sports? Recent Developments Within the Global Sports Industry.The public talk is part of a lecture series sponsored by the International Center for Performance Excellence in WVU s College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences .

Nauright is professor of sport management and director of the Academy of International Sport at George Mason University.

He is a widely published scholar in the field of sport studies. He is the author ofSport, Cultures and Identities in South Africa,co-author ofRugby and the South African Nationand co-editor ofMaking Men: Rugby and Masculine Identity.

Nauright and Steven Pope, director of the WVU International Center for Performance Excellence, are the co-editors of the forthcomingRoutledge Companion to Sports History.He is also author of a forthcoming book on global sports management to be published by Fitness Information Technology at WVU .

He has taught at universities in Australia, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand and Scotland and been a keynote speaker at conferences in India, South Africa and South Korea.

Naurights talk is the first of five in the lecture series. The other four are scheduled for the spring semester.
