Students in West Virginia University piano professor Christine Kefferstans studio will perform works by Spanish and Latin American composers Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Creative Arts Center .

Dances, Dolls, Destinations: Music Influenced by Spainwill feature piano compositions by Alberto Ginastera, Maurice Ravel, Joaquin Turina and Hector Villa-Lobos.

The recitalwhich is free and open to the publicwill begin at 6 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall .

This will be a colorful program, including dances and descriptive music evocative of Spain, Kefferstan said.It also includes a set of pieces by Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos that describes dolls made of paper, rubber, porcelain, clay and more.

She said performers will include all of her studentsundergraduates as well as graduate students.

Recognized by the WVU Division of Music and West Virginia Music Teachers Association for excellence in teaching, Kefferstan earned her doctorate from the College-Conservatory of Cincinnati, where she studied with David Bar-Illan.

Her students have placed in the Van Cliburn Amateur Competition, Greensboro Music Academy, Bartok-Kabalevsky Competition, Stravinsky Competition, the Fite Family Competition, Pittsburgh Young Artists and various Music Teacher National Association competitions.
