West Virginia University interim President C. Peter Magrath and Athletics Director Ed Pastilong have released statements supportingJohn Marinatto’s appointment as commissioner of the Big East conference.
* WVU interim President C. Peter Magrath:
“The Big East is one of the nation’s premier conferences, and the selection of John Marinatto to lead it is a big Wa big winfor the conference and for intercollegiate athletics.
“John is skilled, principled and knows the conference and the complex issues with which it must deal. He also cares about students who are the athletes. My colleague chancellors and presidentsand Iare elated at John’s selection.”
*Director of Athletics Ed Pastilong:
“West Virginia University will always be indebted to Michael Tranghese, as he played a major role in helping WVU obtain full membership in the BIG EAST , and we wish him nothing but the best in retirement.
“We are pleased that John Marinatto will be continuing the strong leadership in the conference. John has a vast knowledge of the league through his time as an athletic director at Providence and then with his years as associate commissioner.
“WVU pledges to do its part in helping to make this a smooth transition to a new commissioner, along with helping the Big East continue to be strong and successful in the future.”
