Bernard Goldberg, an internationally acclaimed musician and former principal flutist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, will present a master class Saturday (Nov. 15) at the West Virginia University College of Creative Arts .

There will be two sessions onExploration of Articulation.They will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2:30-5:30 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall of the Creative Arts Center .

The day will focus on the art of articulation and feature WVU flute majors performing works by Marcel Moyse, Joseph Henri Altes, Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven and Felix Mendelssohn, said WVU flute professor Francesca Arnone . There will also be exhibits featuring music and instruments available for purchase.

Goldberg is recognized as one of the worlds leading performers and teachers of the flute. He has studied with Georges Barrere, Marcel Moyse and Pablo Casals, among others.

He joined the Cleveland Orchestra as principal flutist at the age of 21. Two years later he accepted the position of principal flute with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He has toured extensively as a recitalist, soloist and chamber musician, having performed many times at Carnegie Recital Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

He currently teaches at the Brooklyn College Conservatory in New York.

Tuition for the general public is $25 for adults and $15 for students. The master class is free for WVU students, faculty and staff.
