More than 150 employers from 21 different states will be on the West Virginia University campus Wednesday and Thursday (Oct. 1-2) for the eighth annual Engineering and Computer Science Career Fair.

The event is expected to draw more than 2,000 students in search of high-tech internships and employment with a wide range of regional and national engineering firms, energy companies, manufacturers, government agencies, safety professionals and computer scientists.

The event will take place from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. throughout the ground floors of the Engineering Sciences and Mineral Resources buildings on WVU s Evansdale Campus. It is co-sponsored by the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources and the Career Services Center .

Participating employers include Dominion Energy, Lockheed Martin, Bechtel Bettis, CONSOL , Schlumberger, Siemens, Babcock and Wilcox, U.S. Naval Research Lab, PPG , Raytheon, Turner Construction and Microsoft, to name a few.

Many employers will return to campus Friday (Oct. 3) to conduct individual interviews made by appointment during the fair.

The career fair is an excellent opportunity for both students and employers, said David Durham , director of career services for WVU .It is popular with employers because they know that they will meet top-notch engineering and computer science students to fill their positions.

In addition to internships for current students and permanent employment opportunities for those approaching graduation, many companies offer cooperative education positions (co-ops), which involve periods of full-time work alternating with periods of full-time study in the students field of interest.

Co-ops are a great opportunity for our students, said Gene Cilento , dean of the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. They offer students the opportunity to gain professional experience while earning their degree and can also help them pay for college.
