The West Virginia University Lifetime Activities Program and Interstate Aquatics are offering a scuba certification class beginning Thursday, Sept. 25.

The course will be taught by two instructors certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. They have more than 35 years of combined teaching experience.

The scuba certification class is designed to encourage recreational scuba diving and snorkeling. The course offers diving safety and education and runs five weeks, one night per week.

Classes will meet on Thursdays from 5:30-10 p.m. Students will learn safety aspects and techniques of participation in underwater activities within the classroom from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Room 279 of the WVU Coliseum . Students will then shift to water-based learning from 8-10 p.m. at the Natatorium pool.

At the completion of the course, students will be expected to complete four open-water dives over a two-day period.
