West Virginia University will celebrate DarwinFestthe 200th birthday of Charles Darwin (born Feb. 12, 1809)with a series of intellectual activities in February and throughout the spring semester.
Darwin: Evolutionary Science and Its Impacts on Societywill consist of roundtable discussions, lectures and other events that examine the continuing influence and relevance of Darwins seminal work,The Origin of the Species,on science, philosophy, history, medicine, law, religion, ethics, genetics and education.
Reflecting the range of Darwins intellectual impact, DarwinFest is an interdisciplinary celebration involving colleges and schools across the University, including the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Consumer Sciences, Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, College of Creative Arts, College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, Health Sciences Center, Honors College, College of Human Resources and Education and College of Law.

Cohen is also seeking WVU faculty members who teach relevant courses and/or are interested in supervising independent study credit courses linked to DarwinFest events. Such courses, coordinated with the study abroad program, might include a spring break component or summer trips to Darwin sites, exhibits and celebrations in England.
Departmental and student honoraries are also encouraged to contact Cohen about participating in the celebration. Units planning to sponsor DarwinFest colloquia, events and other activities should notify the planning committee by Sept. 30 so plans can be finalized.
WVU DarwinFest is supported across the academic and administrative units of the University, including Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, the Presidents Office and University Advancement and Marketing.
