The head of the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University will present a guest artist lecture Wednesday, Sept. 10, in the College of Creative Arts at West Virginia University .

Dan Boyarski will speak at 5 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A) of the Creative Arts Center . The Division of Art and Design is sponsoring the lecture.

Boyarski was previously a guest artist during a multidisciplinary design forum last October.

Dan will be working at the CAC with graphic design students on a motion graphics project, which was the most popular part of his talk last year, and helping them to examine the social responsibilities of designers,said Eve Faulkes , professor of the WVU Graphic Design Program .

Boyarski was recently a member of the Samsung Electronics Design advisory board after working with Samsung as a project director in its Innovative Design Lab. He has served on several design juries and has given presentations across the world, including at the 2003 International Design Culture Conference at Seoul National University.

His talk is part of a series of lectures at the College of Creative Arts this semester by internationally known designers.

  • Oct. 9Chaz Maviyane-Davies, professor of design at the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, who formerly ran the renowned design studio The Maviyane-Davies Project in Harare, Zimbabwe
  • Oct. 22Tom Ockerse, head of the graphic design department for many years and currently professor at the Rhode Island School of Design
  • Nov. 20Ellen Lupton, director of the Graphic Design MFA program and Center for Design Thinking at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore
